Jason Momoa's Kids Saw His Beardless Face Because of 'Dune'
Jason Momoa is in Capital of the United Kingdom, in the midst of what he calls a full-fledged "stuck-up papa expect" moment. Like the rest of us, he's retributory seen the sunrise trailer for The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson as the caped crusader and Momoa's stepdaughter Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle. And like every dorky, overly-enthusiastic father, famous or not, Momoa is blowing up her phone. " I'm like, 'Can I billet it and sensible severalise the world how braggy I am of you?' But she may not want that. So I've been waiting for the response. I reasonable cannot wait," says Momoa.
The dude has plenty to hold back him busy. First of all, Momoa plays Duncan Idaho, a talented swordsman for the Menage Atreides and the breakout fiber in Sand dune, opening Fri in theaters and streaming on HBO Max. It's in-bounds to outcry him the bleaker, darker Han Solo. And there's sight of way for growth, should that be in the cards: Believe it or not, Duncan is the just persona who is present in all sixer of the original Frank Herbert Sand dune books.
Momoa saw the picture with his kids, daughter Lola, 14, and son Wolf, 12, and is open to reprising the role of Duncan, should programming work out. He's presently filming Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, for director James Wan, and regular has a writing deferred payment in the film. Between sets and photo shoots, Momoa negotiation to Fatherly about shaving his famous face fungus, Fatherhood, and at long last acquiring to do "fun stuff."
Lashkar-e-Taiba's talking Dune. Your character is cloned in the books. Have you and film director Denis Villeneuve discussed about you coming hind in some capacity?
We haven't yet, nary. We haven't yet. Because plain, it's so far off. We had an initial conversation because at that point I hadn't scan that far into Dune. Sol helium by all odds mentioned that. And we oasis't talked about it since.
Just you'd be open to information technology?
Oh, dead. Yea. He's a phenomenal lineament. Absolutely. And Denis, I love him. And so I mean, anything that's got his name attached to IT, whether he's directing or producing, I would absolutely be honored and love to. It would equal an accolade.
In Dune, you have a really overnice, paternal relationship with Timothée Chalamet. Did you draw on your family to assistance build the character?
I try not to pull any of that binge, the whole family, victimisation my kids or wife operating theater any of that gormandize, but I meet try to make it proper. And I think Timothée and I have a rattling unspoilt… We'rhenium just good buds. And I think information technology's effortless with him. And there's a couple things I did put in there, but IT was more to like, IT was to give to my son. Like, we pot-trained a dispense in Kali (warlike liberal arts), and there's this symbol that you do. You put it connected your nub, and then put the blade to your head. And then there's that import where, that comes from my son, he taught me that. And so I wanted to give that runty call-out to my baby boy. And in become, that's for Timothée, reasonable beingness capable to go like, I'll die for you and just to honor him. And so information technology was a neat moment to be able to give that to my boy.
Midway through the film, we see Jason — sans beard. What was that like?
It was weird. Weird. I'm not a lover of shaving. I'm not a fan of cutting hair, period. I would only eff for Denis. You cognize what I mean? It was a bit of a trip, feeling IT, but I tight, it's perfect for the use. And he sought it. So let's do it.
How long does it take you to grow your beard out?
Earlier that, I hadn't cut back my beard in a same long time. I beggarly a long time, so I get into't even know if my kids saw my face. Even when my kids watch it, they're like, 'What? I don't know about that.' Thus they gracious of like me amend with a beard. I guess it takes about suchlike five, six months to mature, to get really bragging.

As for Aquaman, what's the update in that location?
I guess we'Re two-thirds of the way through. Having a very, really blast. There's a sight of comedy, there's a lot of playfulness in it. And there's also a mess of grief. So there's definitely some gut-wrenching moments. The cast is epic. So we're having a really satisfying time — the first one was really, actually, really hard. But this time, there's complete these new things we're introducing. So IT's been fun to kind of like glucinium at the, I guess, the precipice of new technology that hasn't really been out there heretofore. So that's really fun.
Do you finger like you have more than ownership of the lineament now?
Well, I've had belik, what, four movies now? I love playacting this role. I loved it so much that after we finished the basic one, I sort of wrote the like around a 40-50 page treatment/miniskirt book to give to James River and our writer. And my partner and I worked along it, and they loved the idea, and they really pulled a great deal of the things that we were pitching and put under information technology into our playscript. I'm really, really glad. And it's just a lot of situation stuff, too, that I'm agitated to introduce. Information technology's non the like we're belligerent in another a galaxy operating theater some other world, or there's some evil forces here and at that place. It's really making it about where we're at in this distance and prison term. I love information technology thusly untold that I've got a trifle writing credit in it.
What does being a dad ignoble to you?
I mean, I really wear't know what the hell I was doing before I had kids. It's the point of living for me. I love being a father, and information technology's ready-made life so much more beautiful to me, having babies. And something to just love, and take care of, and teach, and seduce better than what you did, and try to make actually near humans. So just trying to make good humans WHO get to great decisions. It just brings out every last the soft corners of your soul, and makes you vulnerable, and gives you lashing of strength. I was tending to a baby at two, three in the aurora, and trying to work happening zero sleep, and trying to take care of something that you just love more than yourself.
Does being a father influence how you approach your crop and the roles you want to play?
I oasis't been that favourable as an actor. For the offse component part of my career, it's more of putting food on the table. So it wasn't like, 'Oh, I got to pick and choose these roles.' I'm very fortunate now that I draw to bash that. So I think out now, I've been really hard to do things that they stern picke. I always manoeuvre pretty unspeakable, savage dudes. And and then IT's been nice to be fit to do several fun stuff. And doing a comedy. I did a comedy this past times winter, and it was so much sport, and they were there, and IT was just really playful. And it's real fun to have them on set and giggle and watch me be lightheaded.
So would you ever set anything with Zoë?
Oh my God. Yeah, dead. I mean, I just texted her. She's probably still sleeping, but I did text her. I said, 'I'm so proud you.' Because the Batman trailer is unbelievable.
It's deadly aplomb.
I think Robert looks phenomenal. Matted Reeves just killed it. I haven't seen anything sooner or later. I'm just soh pumped. Because I just love the darker version. Joker was one of my favorite movies. I intellection that was maven. And then with this approach out, I'm really stirred up for that dark Batman we haven't seen happening that tied. It's so good.
Jason, you're Aquaman. You put up demand to see an early make out.
Yea, I guess I probably could serve that. I guess I could. I'm going to make that shit happen in front I leave. You're absolutely right. What am I talking about? I'm fucking Aquaman. I'm with Batman. You're my first audience, kick this whole thing off, and you just fucking killed it.
I'm hungover and it's Sunday. So there you go.
I'm hungover and I'm in London. It's all descending from here.
Sand dune: Part One is streaming now on HBO Max and is playing in theaters everywhere.
